Profiles of Power is a series of deep dives into the lives of individuals who we believe embody various energies. These badass ambassadors of a new version of spiritual wellness prove, beautifully and magically, that wellness is not one-size-fits-all, but is available and accessible to everybody who dares to harness their own one-of-a-kind strength.
Meet the awesome, Jessamyn Stanley. We’ve been brewing up some magic between the Underbelly & Smudge and we had to take a moment to shine our spotlight on this wearer of many hats. Jessamyn’s power is her light. It's what she brings to the universe. It's why she was born and it's what she is here to both live and do. She shared her light with us and was awesome enough to answer a few questions for us.
Smudge: Tell us a personal story about you summoning your power?
Jessamyn: Recognizing that the only time that I do not feel powerful is when I am giving my power to somebody else. Seeing the different ways that I do this with the way that I see my physical body, the way that I value my mental health and emotional wellbeing. Accepting that I can't hold anyone else responsible for how I show up in this world.
Smudge: How do you use spiritual wellness in your everyday life to amplify your power?
Jessamyn: I have to maintain spiritual rituals and practices on a daily basis - really on a moment by moment basis. If I don't do that, I will not feel powerful. It's the same ideology as "you can't give from an empty cup". There has to be a constant replenishing of my cup.
Smudge: How do you promote diversity in wellness and avoid spiritual bypass?
Jessamyn: I accept the parts of myself that have been marginalized by the mainstream. I take the practice of that acceptance as my spiritual journey.
Smudge: What are you a few of your favorite well products?
Jessamyn: Smudge: amethyst and rose quartz and selenite (selenite on my headboard to clear my mind when I'm sleeping) , Mystic Mondays Tarot, cleansing herbs (sage, Palo Santo - I have a sage bundle with flowers that I love).
Smudge: What are you working on and where can people find you?
Jessamyn: I speak about my spiritual practices and rituals in my upcoming book YOKE which is available for preorder. And if anyone wants to do yoga with me, they can do that on The Underbelly.
