Wellness Weekly : Connecting To Your Intuition with Tirrell

Welcome to Wellness Weekly coming to you every Wednesday.  This will be a weekly series, sort of like a Letter from the Editors that will rotate between Morgan, Lara and Luigi with the occasional guest.  We’ll hold space on the Dirt to check-in on our Sixth Sense: the term we use to refer to our spirit, our intuition, our inner power.  And because while we exist in the world alongside our other Five Senses, we’ll do a check-in of those, too.

My advice whenever asked about how to connect to your intuition is “learn how to listen”. I was told a long time ago that everyone is intuitive, but we’ve all been programmed to ignore and not trust it, which is weird considering it is by way of intuition that our species has been as successful as we have been at this game called Life.

I can only speak for myself when I say my intuition is rarely a blaring horn directing me in one direction or another. It is a soft whisper, a fleeting thought, some random idea that I have no memory of how, when, or where I acquired it.  My intuition seems to oscillate from head to heart to stomach and back to my head. Sometimes that voice is so conflicted I feel like there are two different people living in one body.

When I am faced with a two of swords moment, a time in my life when I am standing at a crossroads and need to make a decision but don’t know which direction to take, I find it’s best to slow down, get still and ask myself deeper questions:

  • What am I feeling at this moment and why am I feeling this way?
  • What is the ultimate outcome I wish to experience (excluding everyone else)?
  • Why am I afraid of making one choice over another, what do I fear will happen or will miss out on?

  • Then I sit and wait, and listen, without judgement. What comes back may go against everything I thought I wanted or it might validate exactly what I already know but was too afraid to acknowledge.

Along my journey of self discovery, through completing an advanced certification in meditation teaching and breathwork facilitation, then connecting the dots looking backwards, I have come to realize that intuition is YOU in your highest form. It is the voice that is always with us, guiding us gently from one step to the next. Rarely will it shout but it will persist. And the more we commit to quieting our mind chatter, and eliminating external distractions, the more comfortable we become at recognizing our own unique way of accessing our intuition.

Like every skill or new thing in your life, it takes practice, commitment and a beginner's mindset to start connecting to your intuition. This month as we dive deeper into the subject, start getting curious not only about what intuition means to you but what it feels and sounds like. Your mind needs evidence to get on-board typically, so practice going back in time and finding situations where you went all in on trusting your intuition only to find out everything worked out the way you wanted or better. I bet you’ll find there are so many of these moments, you just had to see it from the big picture perspective.

“Intuition is usually the first voice, doubt and fear often come second.”

Inspired By the 5 other Senses: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch

Sight | Reading “The Map of Consciousness Explained” by David R. Hawkins.

I first read his book “Letting Go” where he introduces his emotional guidance scale and levels of consciousness. This book is a deeper dive into “the entire spectrum of consciousness, from the lower levels of Shame, Guilt, Apathy, Fear, Anger, and Pride; to Courage, Acceptance, and Reason; all the way up to the more expanded levels of Love, Ecstasy, Peace, and Enlightenment.”  If you want to understand your emotional frequency and how to master your reality from a vibratory state, this is the book to pick up.

Sound | Listening To: Lil Nas X “Montero” (album)

It’s been amazing seeing a young, queer, brown, male blow up in mainstream media. I wish there were artists like Lil Nas X when I was growing up, I think it would have made it a lot easier for me to accept myself.  What I love is that this album is full of testimony to how trusting his intuition and refusing to let the industry dictate the music he put out allowed him to be successful by being totally authentic. We love to see it.

    Taste | More H20

A month ago I went out and bought a half-gallon bottle in an effort to drink more water. It’s been doing wonders for my energy and my skin, MY SKIN, has never looked and felt more clear. Most people don’t realize their low energy could be a symptom of dehydration. Water also has cellular memory, so if you were to give your water good intention (pray over it, speak positive affirmations into, etc) it has been known to increase your capacity to attract better things.

    Touch | Labradorite Crystal

Not only is this a really cool stone to look at, it brings with it mystical as well as grounding properties. Labradorite changes colors and is known as a stone of transformation, enhancing strength of will and inner worth. It can help connect you with your higher self during meditation as well as see others with more compassion and empathy.

If you take anything away from this post, I hope it is the knowledge that your intuition is an inner resource that you have the ability to tap into whenever you need it. My parting words and hope for you is that something magical comes your way to show you just how powerfully in tune and in divine timing you already are. Be well.
