Wellness Weekly: Tapping Into Intuition With MacKenzie

Wellness Weekly: Tapping Into Intuition With MacKenzie

Welcome to Wellness Weekly coming to you every week.  This will be a regular series, sort of like a Letter from the Editors that will rotate between Morgan, Lara and Luigi with the occasional guest.  We’ll hold space on the Dirt to check-in on our Sixth Sense: the term we use to refer to our spirit, our intuition, our inner power.  And because while we exist in the world alongside our other Five Senses, we’ll do a check-in of those, too.

The month of October truly zoomed by. Fall is my favorite season and mid-Leo season to early-Capricorn season is my favorite time of the year. My birthday is September 9th, Virgo season, so this time of year always feels like my own personal new year. It is during these months that I always enter a new chapter, a new phase of life. I thrive the most during this time, but also tend to work the hardest.

In addition, during this time of year, my intuition reaches a new level. I get more in touch with my highest self. It’s a new chapter, a new spiritual awakening. This week specifically, the topics of intuition and discernment have continuously come up this week. This weekend specifically, I had an experience where I followed my gut feeling, and spoke my mind about something I was not okay with. It was such a transcending experience because not only did I consciously follow my intuition, I opened my throat chakra as well.

Ever since the Aries full moon, my throat chakra has been opening. I have had meaningful, forgiving conversations, and mended some broken relationships. Shadow work. While this was not easy, I was really able to open my heart and devote energy to truly digging deep, truly putting in the work to reflect and become my best self. This is not easy, but the results are incredible. I feel so freed, so open. My intuition is so heightened because I can see things more clearly, see them for what they are. And no joke, I intuitively played Selena Gomez’s “Naturally” (this was my favorite song in 2009) without even remembering the lyrics. But here they are:

How you choose to express yourself

It’s all your own and I can tell it comes naturally

It comes naturally

You follow what you feel inside

It’s intuitive, you don’t have to try, it comes naturally

Mmm, it comes naturally

Like… wow! It’s absolutely incredible how being in alignment with the moon, the stars, your intuition, your higher self, truly opens you to such incredible life experiences.

How My Intuition Has Heightened My: Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch

Sight

My child-self and my ancestral roots have been appearing everywhere. My family is such an essential part of my life. I am so blessed to have family members that are also my best friends. And I have been able to spend so much time with them this season! I did my younger sister Madison’s first homecoming makeup and it was such a beautiful experience. I saw so much of myself in her, and was able to doll her up on her special day. I remember my sophomore year homecoming like it was yesterday! The pictures even came up on Facebook the other day which is crazy because I am never even on Facebook. Moments like that in life are so irreplaceable. So much love.

Ancestral connections are truly imperative. Our ancestors quite literally live within us, on a bio-spiritual level. One thing my father loves to do is send family pictures in the family groupchat. He has been sending baby and childhood pictures of everyone in my family lately, including my grandparents and ancestors. Just seeing the resemblance in everyone is so beautiful. It reminds me of the power, the love, the perseverance literally running through my veins. My family inspires me so much, and having all these visual representations of this has been so empowering.

Baby pictures of myself have been popping up as well. It’s such a surreal sight, looking at lil ol’ baby/kiddie me, then looking at my current reflection. Time, I tell ya. Surreal.

Sound

So many of my childhood songs have been appearing lately. Currently I am listening to “So Yesterday” by Hilary Duff. I was four years old when that song came out, and my best friend Lexi and I used to jammm out to Hilary Duff. We would make dance routines and everything, and even drag our little brothers Warren Stephen and Antonio to make routines with us. We were disney kids all the way so we grew up listening to the “Cheetah Girls” and “Jump In” soundtracks.

I also LOVE this movement of Black alternative artists. WILLOW, Lil Nas X, Rico Nasty, Trippie Red, just to name a few, have been on this alternative wave that is so powerful and beautiful. I love that as Black people, we are so versatile and multifaceted. We invented rock music. So it’s this movement of reclamation as we break stereotypes that confine us to being one type of person. I love that for us.

My Favorite Songs Right Now:

  1. Vibe Out by Tems
  2. Paperwork Party by Baby Face Face ft. Jack Harlow
  3. Naïve by WILLOW
  4. Movie by Rio Da Yung Og
  5. Lost in the Citadel by Lil Nas X
  6. Industry Baby by Lil Nas X ft Jack Harlow (favorite song and video of the year)
  7. NEED ME by Gyakie
  8. Résumé by Jenevieve
  9. Fue mejor by Kali Uchis and SZA
  10. Gambia by Son Jobarteh

Honorable mention is 2 You by Mariah the Scientist! That was my song at the beginning of Leo season. It helped me fully heal from a heartbreak I experienced in early 2021… Aquarius season; the sister sign of Leo. The synchronicity!

Smell

Last night I made pumpkin cinnamon rolls. There is absolutely nothing like fall! I love everything fall, ESPECIALLY anything pumpkin flavored. Anybody who knows me knows this. I mean I literally buy every vegan-friendly pumpkin item that Trader Joe’s sells. Those cinnamon rolls were perfect! I had been harboring them and ended up making them for my friend Kylah’s birthday. Happy Birthday Scorpio queen!

The smells of fall are like no other. Going outside and just breathing in that fall air, especially when I get the chance to escape the city and go to nature, is so exhilarating. That crisp, nurturing air flows through my body with every breath. I love it.

Taste

My amazing mother has been cooking it UP this lately. My sisters Madison and Makayla have been so busy with in-person school and sports (they're volleyball and soccer stars!) that the family hasn’t been at home as much to cook. But now that fall school sports are transitioning to winter sports, my mother has been cheffing it up! Now I have to give my family credit because we all know how to whip it up in the kitchen, even my dad and brother, but nobody’s cooking is like my mothers. She describes the food to me on the phone while in D.C. and she's in Detroit, 250 miles away, and I swear I can taste the food. The salmon croquettes, the mashed potatoes, the cornbread. Mmm, mmm, mmm. I can taste it now.

Thanksgiving is around the corner and I am so excited! It’s my favorite holiday. Now, let me make it clear, we are not celebrating the genocide of indigenous americans; we know the true meaning of “thanksgiving.” But every year those days off of work and school offer us an opportunity to get together and just be thankful for each other. Hopefully, my extended family can get together this year. The food we have is always unmatched. Last year was my first plant-based thanksgiving so I am excited to have another.

Touch

Let's talk crystals! I have always been a pocket crystal gal, but lately I have been into the much bigger pieces. Today I’ve been working with an Ocean Jasper Egg that I got from Luray Caverns. Authentic! I feel so grounded and focused.

I love how geology and spirituality connect with crystals. Their physical properties can truly aid you in walking through life. Having a bunch of crystals is like having a bunch of little teachers who can aid you in particular areas of life. Just touching a crystal gives you a transfer of energy, or absorbs unwanted energy, depending on the crystal.

Thank you for tapping in with me and my thoughts. I send you love vibrations!
